What Is Spoofing?
Spoofing happens when a scammer impersonates a caller ID or text message by making it seem like they are contacting you from UNCLE.It's surprisingly easy for criminals to replicate our phone number or messaging format, so even if it appears authentic, it’s important not to trust it blindly. When in doubt, hang up and call us directly.
Common Spoofing Scenarios to Watch For
Fake Phone Calls & Texts: You may receive a call or text that appears to be from your UNCLE. The caller will pressure you to act quickly, such as confirming account details or approving a transfer.
Card Number Verification Scams: An automated message might correctly state the last four digits of your card and then ask for your security code. This is a red flag, we will never request your security code.
Secure Access Code Requests: You may receive a text about suspicious activity, followed by a call requesting the secure access code just sent to your phone. Never share your secure access code; no legitimate representative from UNCLE will ask for any access codes.
"Your Funds Aren’t Safe” Scam: A caller impersonating an investigator may claim that your money is at risk at UNCLE. They might urge you to visit a branch and withdraw or transfer your funds, even telling you what to say to the staff. This is a scam.
